Are you ready for some "pin"spirations for the month of October? I'm linking up with Lisa of Pawsitively Teaching and Marissa of Inspired Owl's Corner.
You can't see it but I am jumping up and down for joy because it's October!!!!!
There is so much fun to be had in October! It is one of my favorite months because Halloween is one of my favorite holidays!!! It is just so much fun! Besides the candy, who doesn't love candy ?!, there is also the dressing up part, the scare factor and all the fun characters associated with the holiday -- good-old Frank, zombies, ghosts, witches etc.!
I really need to thank whomever calendared Halloween at the end of the month, because that means there are 31 days of doing Halloween-y stuff!
Of course, Pinterest is the perfect place to find fun ideas to try in your class! Here are few that I've found that I think would make October just a tad bit for fun!
Classroom Decor
Nothing says Halloween is here than some great classroom decor. It isn't necessary to spend too much just a few tweaks and you're good!
How many of you have pom-poms in your room? Look at these adorable monster pom-poms! Just add some eyes, a nose and a mouth to your pom-poms and you've got yourself instant Halloween decor! I know the kids would get a kick out of hanging monsters staring at them.
Directed Drawing
Halloween is the perfect time for art! There are so many fun subjects that could be covered! My favorite are directed draws! Even though you are giving the students the same directions, all the images come out looking so different!
This haunted house would look perfect hanging in the classroom! You could have students write a spooky story to go with their haunted house.
In the past, every time I did a directed draw students would start feeling stressed that their image didn't look like mine. So now, before we starting any type of art project, we talk about what art means and how it's an expression of our individual talents. I explain that no two people are the same and therefore expressing ourselves shouldn't be the same either. Then, I make it a point to show off to the class how different everyone's work is turning out.
Dress Up as a Character
This is probably one of my favorite ideas that I found on Pinterest about 2 years ago! Dressing up is already so fun, but dressing as a character from a story is even better! That year, I dressed up as Pete the Cat! I even had a guitar and white Converse, of course. Needless to say, the kids loved it.
There are so many great books and characters out there! Dressing up as the characters just helps enforce our love of reading and encourages the students to want to read the books too. It's a win - win! In this case a Pin-Win. (Just some pinterest humor! Ha, I couldn't help myself.)
I hope you've enjoyed me three October pins! Want to see more of what I've been pinning this month?! Head over to my Pinterest board. Would love for you to follow me too.

ReplyDeleteDressing up as a book character is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of dressing up as a character. Miss Pointy is the teacher in the novel Sahara Special. I've always wanted to dress like her for Halloween. Thanks for reminding me~ We'll see if I have time to put it together~ :)
