My New Job ~ Yay!

Last year, at the end of the school year I was encouraged by many including my district's superintendent to apply for a Instructional Coach position. I was so torn because doing so meant leaving the classroom and not having my own group of little kiddos.  I'd never thought of myself as anything else but a teacher so the Instructional Coach position wasn't really in my radar. I prayed about it for a few days, talked my husband's ear off and after a lot of deliberating, I felt it was the right path for me.

Long story short, I got the job! I am a Instructional Coach for my district now.

It hasn't been an easy transition (which is why I think I've put off blogging) because a big, big part of me misses being a teacher. This September when you all were getting ready to go back to your classes, I was getting trained on how to be an Instructional Coach. Even though it was hard to leave the classroom, I am confident that this is the job that God has intended for me.

Many changes… good changes are coming my way.

I'm excited to be able to work with many teachers. Helping, guiding, and mentoring teachers and in the end helping our students become successful scholars. I won't just be helping the lives of the twenty-some students in my own class, I'll be able to have an influence over hundreds. I don't want it to sound as if I'm power hungry….not at all… it's just that I am excited that a whole school of kids now become "my" kids.  Although I don't have my own classroom now, I have a whole school.

To be honest, I have a pretty fun schedule. For example, I could be facilitating in a first grade classroom on decomposing numbers in the morning and a fifth grade classroom multiplying fractions after lunch! How's that for a fun day!

So what does this mean for my blog?  Well, I wanted you all to know that this change in position also effects my blog and TpT store. Since I am not assigned to one grade level, my blog won't be focusing on just one grade level anymore either… I will have a broader range.

I'm excited for these new changes because now, my blog will be more of a kindergarten through third grade blog since it's the grades I will be focusing on. This shift will show in the products that I create and put up on TpT too.

Not having my own classroom means I won't have classroom pictures or as many student stories. My focus won't just be what I do with my class it will be what I'm doing in several classes. I am aware that this might be a turn off for some but I hope that all of you will stick around.

I plan on still blogging about things I'm learning in the classroom, but won't be about just one classroom. It will be a collection of the classrooms that I help out in. I will still share all the funny stuff kids say and do but they won't be my students, it will the students I was working with for the day or for the week.

Please join me on this roller coaster that I've accepted! I'm excited for the new school year! I'm excited for my new role as an Instructional Coach and I'm excited to blog all about it!

Now that I am an Instructional Coach, I've been wondering if it's a common position for most districts? Comment below, please. Let me know if you have Instructional Coaches or something similar in your district.

  2. We do not have an instructional coach in our district, but I think something similar through what they call a service center--and we would call someone in as needed. I have said that at some point I think an instructional coach position would be fun! I'm excited to hear how it goes for you. :-)
