Five For Friday…or Saturday

I am so excited to be linking up with Five For Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching. (I think I haven't linked up in about 4 months…shhh.)  I know it's Saturday and this is suppose to be Five For Friday…but I was at a good friend's birthday party yesterday. So….. you all get to enjoy it today instead.

I wish I had taken a picture of the temperature in my car the other day… it has been super hot here in Southern California. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were all around 105 degrees. So let's just say… we wilted!  The hardest part is that some of the classrooms in our school do not have AC. Everyone worked together though and those teachers that did have AC invited those teachers that didn't into their classrooms.

I love the warmth but as soon as school starts…. I am ready for Fall. I mean, Starbucks already has their Pumpkin Spice Lattes out … surely that must mean it's time for Fall, time for sweaters and boots, time for warm scarves and warm latte. Pumpkin Spice Latte and 105 degrees do not go together… just saying.

Now that I am a Instructional Coach (I.C.) I get my own little space within a big huge office at the District Office.  I tried to bring some stuff from my old classroom so that I wouldn't miss it too much. My planner is open. As you can see some spots are filled in… I worked on it this morning and now it is covered.  The life of a IC is busy. Constantly going into classroom to support and help. I would be lost without that cute, chevron planner.

Even though I don't have my own classroom now (moment of silence), I still get to go into other teachers' classrooms to helps.  Look at this amazing art work. One of my good friends  teaches 4th grade and decided that she'd have the students do self-portraits and then have them write about themselves.

I didn't get to help with the art portion of it but we used the art piece and integrated it into their writing. We had the students do an all about me narrative with a spin.  They had to talk about themselves but the typical stuff most people write about …. it had to be random and something very little people know. For example, one student shared that she only wears socks if they are mismatched and only the kind that goes up to her ankles.

superhero, comparing numbers, place value

Next week I am going to be in a second grade classroom doing a lesson on comparing numbers. I thought it would be fun to have them play a game to reinforce the lesson. I am going to be pulling this game from my Superhero Math on Place Value unit! I have a feeling the kiddos are going to love it.

The kids love superheroes! What better way to compare numbers than to have a superhero face-off! Who is the greatest superhero? Your students will have to compare numbers to find out!

If you are in are interested then you can check it out at my store.  This has a lot games and fun stuff for the kiddos to try including masks and a game card. It has games on skip counting, place value, addition and comparing numbers!

  1. 105 and no A/C? Yikes! Sometimes school should be called for extreme weather (IMO), too cold or too hot. It is wonderful that other teachers helped accommodate those without A/C. I put your math pack on my wish list. It looks awesome!

  2. Hey Laura!

Thanks for commenting on my post and leading me to your blog! You've got a new follower! I'm interested in seeing how your year goes as an Instructional Coach. I've always been interested in becoming an IC, but have been nervous about leaving the classroom. It seems like you're going to be amazing. Can't wait for updates!
