You know how interactive notebooks are aaaaallll the rage. Well, I tried it last September. I really tried. And then after Unit 1 … I gave up. Why? Well… little second grade kiddos need a lot guidance with those things! That's why! And I apparently am a great teacher but a poor direction giver. Hahaha. I can laugh now but last September I was pulling my hear out. (Big giant fail.) After unit 1 our interactive notebooks did not look like any of the ones other teachers blogged about.
Now if you are in the same boat as me. First of all, welcome. Second of all… have I got good news for you…. LISA (from PAWSitively Teaching) FOUND THE SOLUTION! She used file folders to make an Interactive Lapbook!
This is teacher heaven! Here's another picture but her blog post has tons of pictures and she even included step by step instructions on how to make the lapbook.
Now for the best part! She is offering this product as a freebie for this week only!!! Believe me, you want this freebie when you go back to school. So hurry on over to her blog. While you're there make sure to follow her blog and follow her store!
Make sure to stop by next week as Primary Peeps shares more great tips for back to school.
I used interactive notebooks for phonics and language arts for the first time this year. I found I had to cut down on how much writing I put in the language arts one for the first semester. Without handwriting lines they were filling up the box with one or two words, and we needed several sentences to fit. So I did what we do, modify! Key words and phrases replaced paragraphs. By the second semester they got the hang of it, and I loved them.
ReplyDeleteMy goal this year is to make anchor charts ahead of time, then we will fill them in together, and then make a notebook entry. I love that the kids have a record of what they've learned. Looking forward to using this one for math.
Andria, I like the anchor chart idea to support the notebook entry. Then it will have more relevance.
