Teacher Heaven

Do you use scoots?

When I first learned about scoots… I thought… well that looks like fun.   I didn't ever expect them to become the most popular way of doing work in my class.

My little kiddos actually cheer when I tell them we are going to be doing a "scoot" around the room.  Cheer! As in "yay" or "yes"! Over. Doing. Work. That's what I call, teacher heaven.

It's a win-win.  I get my kiddos to work and they get to "scoot" around the room.

What is a scoot? It's an easy way to get your class to practice a skill one task card at a time.

After many times of doing scoots in my class, this is my favorite way. I hand out a card to each student while they are still sitting at their desks. Then calling a few students at a time, I create a large human circle around the whole room. I have them sit on the floor but most like to lay on ground to work on their card. Since the students are already in a circle, when I call "scoot", they simply leave their card and scoot over to the next card.

Really there is nothing magical…just the promise of not having to sit at their desks…. and that is all it takes!!!

Look at how focused they are! Seriously, teacher heaven.

In these pictures, my kiddos are working on my Beginning Division Scoot.

This is my latest one I've created! I LOVE ice-cream so it's only natural I combine my two loves together!  The best part of my scoots… they're only 2 bucks. Believe me 2 bucks for teacher heaven is so worth it.

Right now, all my scoots are math related. Have you used them for ELA? I can see them totally working for that too.  Hmmm? My summer to-do list just got longer.

Leave a comment,  I'd like to know which subjects they've covered.
Happy Friday!
